Malcolm Skinner
I offer Narrative, Solution Focused and Mindfulness-based counselling.
My practice is located at Ngongotaha (Rotorua) and Tokoroa.
I am a member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (2004) and hold a Master of
Counselling degree (Univ Waikato 2006) and a PhD in the Biological Sciences
(Melb Univ 1978).
As counselling is an exploratory process with the client’s own knowledges (the client is
the expert in their own life), curiosity is the driver of the counselling process. I have
found that my long experience being naturally curious as a scientist, fits well with my
approach to counselling.
I am accredited with the Family Court and with Employee Assistance Programme providers
(Stratos and OCP).
I am also contracted with the New Zealand Aids Foundation INZAF) and able to offer free
counselling for many problems experienced by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender
communities (LGBT). Through NZAF I am also able to provide their free confidential “Fastest”
service for HIV/Syphilis.
I have extensive experience working with individuals & couples. My work has covered a wide
variety of issues, including primary mental health problems. I have found that for many of
the problems people bring to counselling, solutions may be found relatively quickly.
Cost:
I offer a “sliding” fee scale to accommodate peoples’ financial situations.
